Season V - Week 7
(Monday, May 28th to Saturday, June 2nd)

Team Standings
This was a make or break week for a few teams, and even though most of them played quite well and came in with solid scores, 1st place Alpha made things very difficult for everyone with another impressive week. Idling along at mid-week near the top of the pack but looking like they were going to give up a few points to some of our erstwhile contenders, Alpha heated up and finished very strong—they scored over 400 points in the Saturday PL alone—to come in with 1,542 points, the 3rd highest scoring week in team play this season. Great job. This enabled Alpha to get a little breathing room over the 2nd place MAD BOMBERS, who played well and by coming in with 930 pts managed to contain the damage and stay within striking distance at 847 pts back. They have a potent line up and are capable of blowing things up in a big way. Meanwhile, a plucky Pags To Riches unit that has spent the whole season right on the leaders heels suddenly find themselves in a very tough spot after a rough Week 7. They weren't included in the make or break group when the week began, but an almost 2,000 pt deficit may be too much to over come with 3 weeks left to play. Regardless of their situation I'm sure they will fight 'til the end, just as the Chip Chargers are...they may be in 7th place, but this feisty group (they take after their captain) scored an impressive 871 points for the week. Good job Chargers. The 4th place Cheeky Monkeys fought hard this week and even though Alpha managed to hold them off they are now in a great position, along with the BADazzBEARS and Generation X, for an attempt at capturing the not too shabby 3rd place bronze. Good luck to all the teams for Week 8.

Player of the Week
easydeuce747 has quickly made a name for himself as a tough out on the EPC tables, and with an impressive win in the Wednesday PL, plus strong 2nd and 13th place finishes, took Player of the Week honors for Week 7. His 299 points accounted for over half of his teams weekly score, great work. butters9 is another bright new addition to the club and also had a trio of scores that included a couple final tables, 3rd and 4th, for a total of 263 pts. After a slow start Dirty Rook has been steadily creeping up to his customary spot among the league leaders, and led the Alpha domination with a win plus two other scores of 6th and 21st for a total of 248 pts. Long time Bear ArnoldZifell, who is quietly putting together another solid season of play, had four strong games with finishes of 7th, 9th, 12th and 18th for a total of 233 pts, and the always dangerous Gtsacci had a pair of 3rd place finishes on the way to netting 230 pts for the Breezers. Other team leaders were JellyBaby10/Cheeky Monkeys, GandalfDwite/Ace Holes, SkyAwe/Chip Chargers, DaPusnisher/Generation X and BlueEyesnOKC/Solvent Puberties.

Scoring Leaders
sansara52
maintains a solid lead here with 1,579 points scored through 7 weeks of play. To average over 225 pts a week is quite an impressive feat, Great job. His closest competitor for the league scoring title is riddle78 with 1,168 pts. RaidrClaus has oorah'd his way to 1,073 pts so far this season, followed by butters9 in 4th with 1,019 and alamoterror cracked the top 5 with 985 pts. Peggia74 (981), easydeuce747 (959), Ybucks (852), tommydoo (831) and ArnoldZifell (822) complete our top 10.

EPC Top Gun
The pressure to bring home a low score keeps building each week in this event. sansara52 continues to be up to the task, leading with a 5.43 low score avg. Plenty of players still in contention here though. Among them are flint8600 and RaidrClaus, tied at 7.57, riddle78 in 4th with an even 9, old ESPN war horses alamoterror and Jr_RLC are tied for 5th at 9.14, followed by Dirty Rook (9.71), CSBarbarian (10.14), JackIsPoker (10.14) and JD-WVHokie (10.29). As tough a category as there is, good luck the rest of the way.

PPG
MVP candidate sansara52 is averaging a league high 32.9 points per game. JCBulldog is 2nd at 29.4, followed by RaidrClaus (27.5), leev1027 (27.0) and Wackman's (23.8). butters9, JackIsPoker, easydeuce747, paintman19 and alamoterror round out the top 10.

Avg Finish
Tied for the lead with an avg finish of 46th are butters9 and JCBulldog. 3rd with an avg of 47 is jfkpags, followed by oldbullet, OZZY-STL and RaidrClaus, all at 49. Dirty Rook, paintman19, DT Brown45, fuddly004, sansara52 and tracythebear round out the top 10.

Wins & Final Tables
alamoterror still leads with 3 wins, while Dirty Rook, GandalfDwite and JackIsPoker all got their 2nd win of the season to join 90softtop, DaPusnisher, KingJustinI and riddle78 as the only other players with multiple wins this season. sansara52 has a league leading 12 final tables, riddle78 is 2nd with 9, butters9 has 8, and a six way tie for 4th between easydeuce747, JD-WVHokie, Peggia74, RaidrClaus, tommydoo and Ybucks with 7 final tables so far. Great job everyone.

Some Info on Team Play

Before a new season starts we post a sign up sheet at the website for players to sign up for Team Play, basically stating their intention to play. We ask that players participating in Team Play play at least one or two League Tournaments a week, hopefully more. You can participate in team play by simply signing up and if you want, possibly start your own team by requesting to be a captain when you sign up to play. The number of captain slots available depends on the amount of players that sign up; we like to have at least 15 players per team. A player can also sign up via email, a message board, on the club lobby comment wall or even by mentioning it on a table. We try to make it as easy and convenient as possible. The important thing is to make sure you are somehow put on the sign up sheet.

All players that wish to participate in Team Play MUST sign up before the start of a new season, even if they were on a team the previous season. This includes captains and co-captains. The captain of a team gets to keep a few players -- called "keepers" -- that were on their team the previous season, then drafts the rest of their players from the sign up list. New teams get an extra pick for a few rounds, starting in round 4, to make up for not having keepers. Players score points for their team by finishing in the top 15% of any of the seven League Tournaments held each week. We used to let players join teams during the season with waiver drafts but we are probably going to discontinue that practice.

There are many opportunities to win prizes playing team poker; League MVP, League Scoring Leader and Player of the Week honors, are examples of ways to win. There are also awards for things like most tournament wins and most final tables. The team season is 10 weeks long. Season II ended with Alpha holding off defending champs Generation X to win the team championship on the last day of league play and Season III is looking to have just as exciting a finish. If you have never tried team poker, give it a go; it's a lot of fun and is a good way to meet and learn from other players. It is also possible to win individual championships by competing for each League Tournament's League Champion title. Records for team and individual stats and standings can be found via menu tabs at the top of each web page.

Season III - Week 10

You can cue the fat lady...but she's still got a little bit of time on her hands before she sings for the entire EPC. While Alpha has all but clinched the Season III team championship, there is still plenty to sort out with 3 make up tournaments left to play; one each for weeks 4, 8 and 9. We still have a battle going on for the not-too-shabby 3rd place spot, with about 600 points separating 4 teams in that contest. And we have some extremely tight races for several of our individual awards, including the League Scoring Title, MVP, Rookie of the Year, and a couple League Championships. Also, don't forget, there are countless spots up for grabs in the Top 10 standings and entry into a new Season IV event. And I gotta give an oldie shout out to Has4AsMaybe, who joined EPC just a few weeks ago and has quickly thrust himself into contention for the Saturday PL League Championship. Hey Frank, great job and welcome back! Also joining the fold is our new scribe Ace McCracken, who has more than earned his money (he's an unpaid volunteer) with coverage of the races as they come down the stretch.  So grab some popcorn and take a seat playah, another exciting finish is upon us.

Team Standings
Congrats to team Alpha, the unofficial Season III Team Champions.
There is one constant in team play: Champions know how to finish. Alpha removed any doubt we might have had going into the 3 make up tournaments in impressive fashion by scoring 1,240 points in Week 10. That's 449 pts more then the next best team and just 6 pts off the league season high 1,246 they scored in Week 5. Gen X would have to run every final table of the 3 remaining tournaments just to have a chance of catching them. Alpha's attack was once again spearheaded by their two-headed scoring beast, Dirty Rook and LBM&T, but they also showed great depth as two of their lowest scorers this season both chipped in over 100 pts. Captain alamoterror, as he has done so many times in the past, led a great team effort with both his play and leadership. Well done. Generation X, no stranger to strong finishes themselves having run the table in Season I and just missing in Season II, gave another great effort but it was too much to overcome. It would have taken a record breaking week plus a poor showing by Alpha to take the lead, but kudos to the Xers for fighting to the end. Led by their captain XBad_Company and his two final tables, including a win, they scored a solid 791 pts for the week.

The chase for 3rd has heated up as the BADazzBEARS,
led by Deadhead24/7, aka "the dancing bear", scored 599 pts to move up to the 3 spot, ending the Solvent Puberties seven week hold on that position. Good work bears. Pube captain monkey_nads was right there in his teams battle for 3rd, landing two final tables in Week 10, and they are still plenty solvent, just 125 pts back in 4th place. And Pags To Riches, riding the hot hand of easydeuce747, and the Cheeky Monkeys (hot hand...that'd be Hotgams44) are right on their heels in 5th and 6th respectively. All these teams, as well as the first year Chip Chargers and 8th place Kool Breeze, are sure to battle through to the end; having fun, enjoying some good poker, and letting the chips fall where they may. More to come on all of the above in the season end report next week.

Player of the Week

Dirty Rook. After near 40 weeks what more can I say? Season after season, week after week, tourney after tourney, he keeps rolling along, making it look too easy. A vast majority of us know better though, having first hand experience with how tough it is to nail down those EPC wins and final tables that he collects like berries in a basket. Some of ya are probably sick of hearing about him every week so maybe I should just use one word to describe what he's doing: Sick. Irony, ya gotta love it (if you don't miss it). He's in the thick of several races and has already nailed down a few others, but more on that later. Week 10 was a win, another win, a 5th, and another 5th, for an EPC RECORD 457 points (breaking the record he already held of 393). I guess I wont bother mentioning how impressive that is considering how hard points are to come by these days. Oops. Alright, I'll let up on the Rook adulation, but really folks when it comes to writing these things it's like Dragnet.... Just the facts. Good job Rook.

His main competition this season for EPC dominance, and a possible MVP award, is LBM&T. "Lil Buddy" is having a great campaign and added to his impressive totals with a very strong week 10 that included two 2nd place finishes and just missing another final table for 250 pts. Just behind LB was Gen X captain XBad_Company, who had a win and a 3rd for 249 pts, followed by rookie easydeuce747 with 241 pts (2nd, 2nd, 19th) and Deadhead24/7 with 207 pts (3rd, 4th, 10th).  It is a fine line sometimes with these things but sniffing out EPC final table's throughout the week takes some serious skillz, great job everyone.

League Scoring Leaders
This one is going down to the wire. I tell ya what kids, I'm gonna forgo all the nitty gritty details of this hotly contested race and hook you up with Ace. Click HERE to read his coverage of the battle for the League Scoring Title. When the dust cleared Dirty Rook had taken the lead, sitting atop the leaderboard with 1,695 points. LBM&T didn't fall far though and is just 30 points back at 1,665. These two are setting a great standard not just with their play but also their actions, as they remain humble in nature and a pleasure to sit with in any given league tournament (well except for their nasty habit of hogging all the chips). We've all seen the opposite too many times, you know the type, and I for one am thankful for their refreshing attitudes.
Three tournaments left to play, good luck to both players.

With 1,219 points SPOILER64 isn't mathematically eliminated from this race, but he would need to place around 1st or 2nd in all three remaining tournaments
, combined with neither player ahead of him scoring any points, to take the lead. Not impossible, but even with his ability this seems highly unlikely. SPOILER has been cranking out the points for a while too though and ranks right up there with the best of EPC, great job. Rookie easydeuce747 has made a big push down the stretch, moving up the standings on a weekly basis, and now sits 4th with 1,213. While the scoring title may be an extreme longshot, 'deuce has a firm grip on the Rookie of the Year along with tommydoo and seems assured of at least sharing that title if not owning it outright. Too close to call right now, but great work either way. Speaking of tommydoo, here he is in 5th with 1,159 pts and finishing strong as well, wrapping up a League Championship on Thursday after just missing on Tuesday, well done.

EPC Top Gun
This was another close battle all season but a player has pulled away as they come down to the wire. I haven't done all the math, which is complicated by the 3 make up tournaments, but it appears as though it will take a herculean effort for anyone to catch Dirty Rook. He's currently in first with an avg low of 3.3, followed by LBM&T at 4.6 , SPOILER64 at 5.3, tommydoo at 6.2 and Jr_RLC at 6.6. LB can't make up enough ground on the make up weeks to catch Rook, this much I do know. If either SPOILER or RLC win all 3 make up tournaments they could win the Top Gun. That would be amazing to see, but is obviously the longest of longshots. As far as anyone else deducting some high scores from their tally and catching up, I haven't had time to calculate each and every possibility. Regardless, this is a tough contest that requires a good finish every week, even if it's outside the final table (no player managed to get a ft every week this season although a couple players still have a chance with the make up tournaments), so a job well done to all the players near the top of the leaderboard, which also includes OZZY-STL, proftax42, ArnoldZifell, alamoterror, BigAlzzzz and XBad_Company.

Wins & Final Tables
For a few weeks we had a tie for most wins at 3. 75 diamonds got his 4th to finally break that tie, but he remains tied for the lead as Dirty Rook got two wins in Week 10 and also now has 4. Jr_RLC remains at 3 wins, and 6 players have 2 as aamin10, easydeuce747, KISHKUTENA, Mithrall, SPOILER64, and XBad_Company complete a list of 9 players out of 1,600+ in EPC that have multiple wins this season. Impressive stuff. Dirty Rook also jumped to the top of the final tables count, now tied with LBM&T with 17, while Jr_RLC, SPOILER64 and tommydoo form a three way tie for 3rd at 13 ft's each. easydeuce747 (12), XBad_Company (12) and 0ZZY-STL (11) are the only other players with 10 or more. Every one of them were well earned too, good games.

MVP and Rookie of the Year
These two season ending awards are both still too close to call with just the 3 make up tourneys left to play. Dirty Rook and LBM&T are our main MVP contenders, while easydeuce747 and tommydoo are at the top of fairly long list of strong new players to EPC, a list we will go back over in our season recap. Good luck.

League Champs
5 of the 7 League Champions have been won, with the Wednesday PL and Saturday PL still left to be decided. We have 3 players in contention to be the Wednesday PL League Champ, and no less than 8 players vying to finish as our Saturday PL League Champ. Quite a few great performances in these races, and still a lot of the ever important top 10's left to wrap up. Again we will go over all this at seasons end, but for your reading pleasure I offer some League Champ coverage and results courtesy (in part) of Ace McCracken....

Season III - Week 3

After Alpha's dominating performance in Week 2 we returned to what the other teams are hoping will be a season long trend of more equal footing. Alpha is the defending champion, and along with Season I champs Generation X a strong favorite for the Season III title, and will be tough to catch, there's no doubt about that. But all the teams have plenty of talent and if they can maintain through the weeks....possibly go on a little run with a couple weeks of high scores....anything is possible. It's a grind trying to break through into the ranks of team poker elite, but that's what a good poker player is....a grinder.

There were some great tournaments this week, and I was fortunate to see quite a bit of the action. Quite a few old "ESPN Pros" were in on the action, including Jr_RLC, Drummin Don and goodtime4500, who all got wins, and we continue to see strong play from new players like aamin10, imbettyboop and apd1122. Mithrall and HCooke had an epic h2h in Saturday PL, with Mithrall prevailing to avenge an earlier defeat to Cookie he had mentioned. tommydoo came in 3rd in the same tourney, partly behind the power of getting quads twice on the final table. And we continue to pick up new players, holding our second waiver draft for players that will be suiting up for teams this week. Who among the noobs will separate themselves from the pack? Good luck to all players in week 4.

Team Standings
It was close, but Alpha pulled out the win in week 3 with 764 pts. They remain in first place but as mentioned it was a close week with all the teams performing well, so they didn't pad their lead too much. The upstart Solvent Puberties had another strong week, scoring 703 pts to jump from 5th to 3rd in the Team Standings. Formerly known as Merry Mayhem'ers, the 'Pubes had a tough go of it last season - having a 4 week span where they scored a total of 15 pts and finishing last - but have pulled it together and are doing great.  Great job. Grizzled veteran squad Generation X is always right there and this week was no exception as they came in with 640 pts to hold onto 2nd place in the standings. And the Chip Chargers, a new team this season, bounced back from a rough week 2 with 505 pts in week 3. Well done. The other 4 teams were all bunched together with pts ranging from 363 to 396. Every team played well, perhaps this week one of them will put it all together and blow away the competition. Good luck to all the teams.

Player of the Week
Jr_RLC continues to enjoy his comeback as he landed 3 final tables this week with finishes of 1st, 8th and 9th to collect 256 pts for his team. Incredible. Great job, and welcome back. hartjack8, another longtime league player, won one tourney and final tabled another for 6th place for a total of 227 pts. Well done. ngc1 had a 3rd and 5th for 203 pts, LBM&T had another strong week with a 4th and 7th for 178 pts, and apd112 collected 2 final tables and 3 scores for a total of 168 pts. Great job everyone, getting those ft's is definitely a grind, no doubt.

EPC Top Gun

LBM&T is now in sole possession of 1st place in the Top Gun Standings, with an avg low score of 2.67. Last week co-leader Dirty Rook slid to 2nd, just .33 pts behind at an even 3. We have a tie for 3rd with cejohn and proftax42 both at 3.33 and in 5th is 90softtop at 3.67. I was able to grandfather the waiver players into the Top Gun Standings and aamin10 emerged in 6th place. Waiver players scores do not count towards team points until they were actually picked up though. SPOILER64, bobsblueboy, JR_RLC and ArnoldZifell complete the top 10. This is a tough race and there are a good solid 30-40 players that haven't had that one bad week to throw them out of the running....yet. Good luck!

League Scoring Leaders
LBM&T also leads the league in scoring with 584 pts. Great job. Dirty Rook continues his eternal strong play and is also right behind him in this race with 429 pts. Jr_RLC  is in 3rd with 416 pts, 90softtop holds the 4 spot with 406 pts and SPOILER64 is 5th at 396 pts. fnich72 (372 pts), DT Brown45 (354 pts), hartjack8 (344 pts), imbettyboop (329 pts) and tommydoo (320 pts) round out the top 10.

Week 3 Tournament Winners
Monday PL - Jr_RLC
Monday Night PL - hartjack8
Tuesday Night PL - 75 diamonds
Wednesday PL - wishman49
Thursday Night PL - goodtime4500
Friday Night PL - Drummin Don
Saturday PL - Mithrall

League Champions Standings are now being updated weekly. Wins & Final Tables will be updated later this week and updated weekly the rest of the season.
